And when you do want Banff, Canmore or Lake Louise, they are all within day-trip range.

One of the best-loved trail networks in the Calgary area, a short drive from the house.
The West Bragg Creek trail network has something for every level of rider, from flowy beginner loops to longer backcountry routes. Pedal-assist e-bikes are allowed. In winter the same trails are used for fat biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Bragg Creek is the eastern gateway to Kananaskis.
Highway 66 runs west from the village into the Elbow Valley, past Elbow Falls to trailheads, campgrounds and river spots. It is gated past Elbow Falls from December 1 to May 14. In summer, you can loop through Kananaskis on Highway 40 for one of the prettiest drives in Alberta.
To park at Kananaskis trailheads, including West Bragg Creek, you need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass ($15 a day or $90 a year per vehicle). Buy it online before you go.

Canmore is about an hour away, Banff about an hour and twenty minutes, and Lake Louise about two hours, all by Highway 22 north and the Trans-Canada Highway. Spend the day in the park, then come back to a quiet room in the foothills and breakfast in the morning. You will need a Parks Canada pass for Banff National Park, which includes Lake Louise. The Lake Louise lakeshore parking lot fills early in summer, so arrive early or use the Parks Canada shuttle. Directions are on our Find Us page.
Yes, especially if you are coming for hiking, mountain biking or quiet. Bragg Creek is the gateway to Kananaskis Country, with trails a short drive away, free parking at the B&B and a much quieter village. Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise all make good day trips when you want them.
